OM Symbol

I have always had a fascination for the sacred and mystic symbols and their meaning. It is not until I understood quantum physics and the law of energy and vibration that I understood why there are certain shapes and forms in religions and cultures that hold a sacred purpose. Symbols are more than just art and drawings that symbolizes certain beliefs and truths, they actually within themselves vibrate and emit energy just through their shape and the meaning that they hold. This I have learned through the art of Reiki.

The one symbol that I have found truly beautiful and mystic for many years is the Om symbol. We have all seen it and it is so widely spread that we don't know the root of it and why it was created. Om or Aum, stems from the hindu culture and the chanting of this sound is the highest of all mantras. As I wrote in another post, the A-U-M represents the past, present and the future and explains the three-folded nature of existence; earth, atmosphere and heaven. Brahma, Vishnu and Siva (Hindu gods) and the Vedic scriptures (Rg, Yajur and Sama).

The Om symbol itself represents the essence and the universe and sound is believed to be the first thing that God, Source the All created. Om is therefore chanted in the beginning of other Hindu mantras, meditation and prayers. Beside Hindus Jain and Buddhists also use this sound.

The symbol itself consists of three curves, the lower and biggest curve symbolizes the waking state where the consciousness is turned externally to our senses. This represents the majority of all beings. The upper curve is deep sleep and the unconscious state. And the middle curve is our deep sleep where we dream and our consciousness is turned internally. The dot within the symbol symbolizes the fourth state of consciousness and is our blissful state which is beyond the first three stages of consciousness. The semi circle symbolizes the illusion, maya, and is thus separated from the other shapes. This is the obstacle we have to overcome in order to become One.

So there you have it, study the symbols and sign around you and make sure that you tune into their resonance in order to benefit from their great powers.

Namasté
